Why a Ladder?
- A ladder will allow players to play accurately handicapped games against each other. People usually play better games in person than they do on-line.
- The ladder will make competition more fun.
- The ladder can be used to run club tournaments where everyone will have a chance to win.
Ladder Game Rules
- Date & Time: All games must be played on Saturday at Crazy Mocha face-to-face.
- 19 X 19 Board : All games must be on a 19x19 board.
- Challenging:
* Ladder players may accept games from any player, but is obliged to accept a challenger difference in rating is less than or equal to 4.0.
* A player may not have more than 1 game promised while playing another game.
* After finishing a game a player may accept a second challenge.
- Handicapped & Komi:
* All games will be handcapped using club ratings.
* For even games, color is decided by nigiri.
* Handicap equals the difference in ratings rounded up.
* Komi will be 6.5 stones for =<0.5 rating difference and 0.5 stones for >0.5 rating difference.
- Ratings: A victory adds 0.5 points to the victor's rating and subtracts 0.5 points from the loser's rating. Ratings are updated after the club meeting.
- Timed Games: A game must be timed if a timer is available and one player requests a timer. Timed games are encouraged. If a timer is not available, please try to finish a game within an hour. Timed games done in Byo-Yomi system. The maximum game will be 30 minutes for each player and 1 Byo-Yomi Period of 10 seconds/ move. We feel this is plenty of time for a thoughtful game while allowing several games during a club meeting.
- Reporting Games: Our Ladder Master is Nick Ross ( ndr120@gmail.com ) . For now, Nick will keeps the ladder tally. During club times on Saturday, the handicap number of each player will be adjusted after each game -- up 0.5 points for losses and down 0.5 for victories. If Nick, or his delegate, is not present for early or late Saturday games, for a game to count, confirming results must be given to the Ladder Master by 5 pm Sunday by both players.
