Step 1: Do the 36 lessons in this tutorial: PlayGo. Even by the 21st lesson you will be able to play a decent beginner's game.

Step 2: Download this 9x9 Computer GO Program called Handtalk ("HandTalk" is an ancient name for "GO"). Playing a simple 9x9 game with a computer will help you really understand the rules. A real game of GO is played on a 19x19 board, and all players agree that playing a computer will teach you bad habits. But playing a 9x9 in the early stage can be helpfull.

Step 3: Contact a Member for 19x19 lessons.

Listed below are just some of the ways to continue studying GO. The methods that work best are the ones that keeps you interested in the game and having fun.

1. Play GO: This is universally recommended as the best way to learn. See our Play Go page.

2. Review Your Games: After playing a game, review it with your opponent or by yourself. Find your mistakes and explore your choices.

3. Personal Tutors: Finding someone at least 4 stones above you as a Tutor can be very helpful. Free tutors can be found through our club Members or on KGS. For professional tutors ($$) see this BGO list of on-line high-ranking Go Tutors.

4. Study Go Books: This Sensei Library page has an extensive list of books and great recommendations.

5. Study Life and Death Problems: The most popular site for this is GoProblems.com another source of problems is Tsumego Collections.

6. Study Joseki: Many software packages offer this option, but EiDoGo is a web-based SGF reader for Kogo's Joseki. Two other site may help also: TurboGo Joseki Tutor and Master Go.

7. Explore Sensei's Library. This is an extensive wiki on GO. You will never tire of reading it.

8. Study Pro Games. Most Software Packages off you this option.
